Siemens expected to design the IT infrastructure for the Indian circuit
The 2011 Formula 1 season is expected to be the longest Formula 1 season in the history of the sport as this season is expected to be the first 20-race season ever. The Korean Grand Prix was introduced to the sport in 2010 after a lot of controversy and
drama but in the end, everything turned out according to the FIA’s plan.
The Korean Grand Prix was quite entertaining but since venues like Abu Dhabi and Singapore have raised the bar for the rest of the venues, the Korean Grand Prix was not as glamorous as it should have been. The only reason behind this was that the track was
built on such a short notice and keeping a check on the organizers and workers of the venue is extremely difficult when the season is underway.
However, the FIA has similarly announced that the Indian Grand Prix is expected to take place for the first time ever in Formula 1’s history next season even though the track is currently going through the designing process at the moment. India is definitely
the right decision financially but if the FIA thinks that they will be able to pull off something unique and big in India, they are wrong.
Firstly, the organizers will barely get the time to complete the track itself and there will be no time to design and build something more than that. Other than that, it was recently revealed that the 5.14km Indian track’s electronics and IT implementation
will be designed and installed by Siemens as Jaypee Sports International recently signed a $28 million deal with them.
Their package will include Race control management system, Video surveillance for the racetrack and video storage if necessary, Digi Flag, Time keeping system up to Formula 1’s standards obviously, VoIP and data networks and Information displays and media
distribution system for media centre.
Sameer Gaur, the MD and CEO of Jaypee Sports International believes that Siemens has been one of the most reliable and efficient companies in the world and as a result, they are the best option for this job.
Siemens has been through this situation before as well as they have worked on F1 tracks including Bahrain, Istanbul, Abu Dhabi and Malaysia in the recent past. It is expected that the track will be complete by July 2011 and hold the Indian Grand Prix in
October 2011.
