Siena Heights men’s volleyball squad loses to Lourdes College – Volleyball news
The Siena Heights men’s volleyball squad had a match with their counter parts from Lourdes College recently.
The two teams met each other at the Siena Heights Fieldhouse. The home squad of the Saints was up against the number 9th ranked team in the NAIA rankings. The result of the competition was a clean sweep in which the home team found themselves on the losing
end.
Despite the fact that the Saints lost the match in three back-to-back sets, they did not go down without putting up an impressive competition. By the time that the night was out, the scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 25-22, 25-23 and 26-24.
The coach of the home team, Mike Watkins, expressed himself by making the following comments about the match and the performance of his side, “These seniors need to look at tonight as ‘yes, we lost the match and it would’ve been great to win it. But in the
bigger picture, the fact that this match existed is because they did this. They came in when we couldn’t promise this thing could last a year or two or three, and it’s still here. Even playing in a Senior Night match is an accomplishment. I can’t say enough
about that group. They’ve been through a whole roller coaster of how we’ve run this program. It’s a varsity program (now), it’s being run that way, and it’s because of them getting us to that point.”
The overall season record of the Siena Heights squad shows a total of seven wins so far. These victories were accomplished at the cost of suffering nine defeats. On the other hand, the overall season record of the Gray Wolves show a total of 14 wins. These
victories have been bagged at the cost of incurring nine losses in all.
Next in line for the Saints is a match against the No. 9 Clarke (Iowa) squad which is a part of the Mid-America Men’s Volleyball Intercollegiate Conference. The recent defeat that the Saints have incurred will enable them to focus on the shortcomings and
improve for the next match.
