Why in the world is

22.00 / 0.02 = 1.1 x 10^2 ??

can you describe the steps on how to get to the answer?

  1. 22.00 has four significant digits, since he last zero is after the decimal, they all count.

    0.02 has only one, since initial zeros do not improve the relative error and are not significant.

    A quotient or product of two approximate numbers has the same number of significant digits as the lease significant factor.

    That said, one never expresses an answer to one significant digit. I would indeed express my answer 1100 in scientific notation as a number between 1 and 10 times ten to the appropriate power:

    1.1 x 10^3. I am not sure where you got your exponent, divide again and you will note the three places between the decimals.

    the steps I used were 1-turn on calculator,2-enter 22,3-press divided by key,4-enter0.02,5-press execute. Display shows 1100

    2nd 1/2 of question 1.1 times 100=110.

    The premise is false. These 2 values are not equal!! maybe the second 1/2 should be 1.1x10^3

    this equation is unbalanced
