I have this audition coming up and i heard that sight reading will be given.

I'm not very good at sight reading..actually i'm very bad at it...so i need some help.

I have a lot of trouble with counting the beats and the notes, so does anyone know any website that teaches how to count the rhythmn step by step.

I already know how to count and stuff, but i just want to go over everything from the beginning all the way to the advanced rhythmn stuff.

SO THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!!! I'LL GIVE 10 POINTS TO THE BEST ANSWER.

(btw..i play the clarinet.)

  1. try www.8notes.com

on this site, you can also practice to read it with questions.

    Good luck!

  2. yay clarinets!

um, musictheory.net might have some helpful stuff on rhythem, give it a look...

but basically, just break it down.  look at it and clap (or tap on your knee if you feel stupid clapping :P) the rhythem.  you'll usually get a brief chance to look it over before you sightread, right? like "here look at it. ok ::30 secondslater:: play" or whatever? so since you know rhythem is problematic for you, scan it over for tough looking spots and tap them out, and know to watch out for them

and if you mess up when you're playing it, just keep going! nobody's gonna play it perfectly,  but you'll make a better impression if you keep your tempo steady than if you slow down at hard parts, or fumble and pause and then start again.

in general for sight reading, the best way to improve is to practice it! get a book of etudes or something that you've either never played, or havent played in a really long time (like years, not months). you can borrow one from a friend for a week or two, you don't have to go out and buy a book just for this.  just start playing them through as if you were in the audition, and don't go back and fix things as if you were learning the etude.  just try to get everything right that you can!

good luck at the audition! :)
