On July 7, we are arriving in Italy and staying at a small cottage by Lake Garda. I was wondering if anyone knows of any interesting tours or museums around Lake Garda.

  1. There is a lot of great parks, either natural or amusement, in this area. I would suggest also to get in the boat that takes you to a tour all around the lake and see all the small towns

For more info you can check http://www.lagodigarda.it/

  2. There are a lot of interesting places near Lago Garda. You can travel between the towns on the lake by boat or bus. Sirmione has an interesting castle and a large Roman ruin. Malcesine has a castle overlooking the lake with a nice small museum. Malcesine also has a gondola to the top of the mountain. The other towns around the lake are all scenic. Riva del Garda and Limone are both nice towns on the north end of the lake.

Other places near the lake with historic old towns include Mantova and Verona. There are often interesting exhibits in the castle in Verona and opera performances in the old Roman colosseum. You can also visit the houses of Romeo and Juliet ot Juliet;s tomb or the tombs of the old Venetian ruling family.

Palazzo Te, the Dukes Palace and the castle are all worth visiting in Mantova.

Venice and Trento are easy day trips by train  from the lake depending on exactly where you're staying.

  3. You can take a tour of the Beretta factory in Val Trompia. The Beretta family has owned this business since 1526. It's very close to the lake.
