  1. The original flag had a circular star field in which each star represented one of the 13 original colonies. That's the same reason the flag (still) has 13 stripes, but since there are now 50 states, it has 50 stars.

    The original circular arrangement was intended to represent a new constellation.


  2. You must mean the original flag of the former American colonies.

    Basically the flag had the English union jack ripped out of it and replaced with a circle of stars, white on a blue background, each star to represent one of the states - -

    If you look at the State Flag of Hawaii, you'll see it still has the union jack in corner............hmmm!  Still a Brit-colony?
