Signing Jonathan Quick top offseason priority for Los Angeles Kings -NHL Update
Los Angeles Kings have all the time in the world to celebrate their first Stanley Cup championship in history now, but when all that comes to an end, re-signing their Conn Smythe Trophy winning goalie, Jonathan Quick, will be their top priority during the
offseason.
Obviously, Jonathan Quick is have the time of his life with the Los Angeles Kings and wanting to test the free agency is probably the last thing on his mind, that is if he even thought about it.
Quick has expressed his desire to stay with Los Angeles on numerous occasions, with the most recent being after they won the Stanley Cup on Monday night.
The playoffs MVP has definitely earned the respect of everyone around the league as he outplayed three-time Stanley Cup winner and New Jersey Devils veteran goalie, Martin Brodeur, for the championship.
For Quick, staying in Los Angeles and developing hockey in the city where the sport is not as famous as others is the main task and winning a Stanley Cup is just the first step towards that.
"I think the attention the team's going to get is great,"Quick said. "That's something we have been looking for in this market for so long, is to get that attention toward hockey.”
"It's just an honour to be on this team. I'm glad to be a part of it," he added.
Under the rules of the collective bargaining agreement, the Los Angeles Kings and Jonathan Quick will not be able to undergo the negotiation process until he officially becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
Currently, the young goalie is on a three-year, $5.4 million contract with an annual salary cap hit of $1.8 million, but it can be easily said that the next deal will definitely be huge in every sense of the word.
With the free agent deadline fast approaching, fans can expect the Los Angeles Kings to have already settled it with Jonathan Quick. The contract extension should be expected somewhere in the first week of July when the offseason player transactions officially
kick off.
It will certainly be exciting to see how the situation plays out in the future.
