  1. The Pirates are finally starting to get their act together by not only signing their top pick Alvarez, but by not agreeing to overpay for the injured number 2 pick Scheppers, they probably saved themselves a lot of future heartache. Actually a fine job (about time) by the new GM Huntington in gathering a lot of talent for the future. That's what small market teams like the Bucs have to do (develop their own talent)! Let's give them a couple years and see if they did the right thing!

  2. Thank god.  Thank god.  Thank god.

For once the Pirates actually did something that may actually improve the product on the field at the expense of spending more money.

I actually like all the trades that they made before the deadline too.  Karstens looks like he can be a front line starter.  Moss looks like he can be an everyday outfielder.  Hopefully LaRoche will light a fire under his brother's butt so that Adam actually plays all 162 games.  Hansen will be valuable member of the bullpen.

And Alverez could be in the majors by this time next year.

Is there light at the end of the tunnel?

  3. still no word on either Alvarez or Scheppers...however the bucs did sign 20th-round draft pick Quinton Miller to a minor league deal worth $900,000...that might not be a good sign for getting a deal done with Scheppers
