Signing of DE Leger Douzable: Tennessee Titans hope for major boost at defensive position-NFL News
The Tennessee Titans have hoped for availability of more options at the depth of defensive line positions as a result of the recent signing of defensive end, Leger Douzable, to an unspecified deal.
Douzable’s contract was confirmed by the management on Wednesday, April 04, 2012. None of the parties disclosed terms of the deal, including its tenure and value.
He becomes the significant signing by Titans this year. They were thought be closer to take on board former Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, but contrary to the team’s hopes the player went to sign with the Denver Broncos.
Manning had rather detailed discussions with Titans front-office officials’ contingent, led by the owner, Bud Adams, but all the efforts turned out to be fruitless.
Now, the management is back to rely on their quarterback, Matt Hasselbeck and rookie, Jake Locker, while focussing strengthening of the squad at some other positions.
Douzable’s signing is part of that plan as the management aims to come out with the best possible team into the 2012 National Football League (NFL) season.
They were unlucky to have missed on the opportunity of making it to the playoffs during 2011 NFL season and now look to consolidate their strength to avoid the repeat of the form this year.
The new signing also coincides with the team’s fears of losing at least three players to the free agency market.
The management is said to aiming for re-signing of those players, whose names were unavailable.
So, the team sees arrival of Douzable well in time to offer them more options at the position and a cover for the potential loss of the players to free agency.
According to Titans’ general manager, Ruston Webster, Douzable can play both end and tackle. He hopes the player will boost the defensive scheme of the team, as versatility of the game skills will make him equally effective at all positions.
Douzable has played for the Jacksonville Jaguars for two consecutive seasons before joining Titans this year.
Before that, he also played for the St. Louis Rams and New York Giants for an unknown period of time.
His record with Jaguars includes 88 tackles, one sack and nine tackles for loss. He played 31 games for the Jacksonville Jaguars in total and started six of them.
Now, he is said to be keen on improving his form further and prove his talent and skills at Titans.
Since the tenure of the deal remains unknown, it is not clear how long he is going to stick with the team. This might have been left to his performance into the first year with the team.
