  1. Moving so it cannot suckle, nosing it away from her, failure to wash it, not responding or beiong worried by its cries.

You need to take swift action, if she is rejecting it. Mother cats usually do this if a kitten is failing to thrive.  Start topping the baby up with kitten milk replacement, weigh it twice daily (minimum gain should be more than 5grms a day - 10 is preferable!). I the kitten is not active, hungry and tends to lie by itself - take it to the vet with a view to starting immediate antibiotics.

  2. well if a mother rejects a kitten it is usually because the kitten was taken away from her at an early age for a petting or anything or because the kitten is dying or sickly. The signs are that the mother will push away that kitten or ignore it and wont let it eat or drink. if you have this problem isolate the kitten untill it is in full health then try  to introduce it back to its mom.

  3. not sure but maybe this helps.........after a certain age cats and dogs tend to care less about protecting and taking care of the litter. Basically at the point where the kittens or pups can eat and drink on there own is when people seperate the mother from the litter.
