Question:

Signs of driving AND having the parking brake up?

Hey...you know how for the parking brake it is bad for you to push it up while driving because it's only meant for parking? Well how can you tell if you are driving and you forgot to push the parking brake down? Will your car give you signs that your parking brake is up or that something is wrong? Will you feel a strain? I know the obvious answer would be to just look at it but sometimes you forget and I'm wondering if there are any signs that your car gives you to tell you that you need to push the parking brake down such as strain on tires or something. I don't know much about cars so thought I'd ask someone who knows. Thanks!

  1. Usually, there is a red light on the dashboard that will stay on as long as the parking brake is set and not released.  Yours may be burned out.  It should be right in the same area where other warning lights are.  It is the main way you're supposed to tell if it's been set or not before parking and shutting your engine off.  If you drive with the brake on, you probably will feel a little drag on the way the car moves but this isn't too reliable of a method.  For one thing, it may not be down too far and for another, there may be several other reasons for why your car feels sluggish.  Driving more than a few miles with the brake in a set position will just about always ruin it.

  2. 1. vehicle feels like you are driving slower.

    2. burning smell.

    3. light is on the dash.

  3. Most cars have a warning light on the dashboard and an audible "beep-beep" to warn you.

  4. if you was driving it with the brake on it would act like it was dragging a heavy load behind it and the back brakes will get really hot, enough that you might smell them, and its not good to do that,it usually results in taking a lot of wear and tear off the brakes along with other problems,if you did this it might be a really good idea to have it checked,it can eat a set of brake shoes up in no time, good luck with it.

  5. um, usually, the car will drag or not move at all ?
