Tottenham Hotspur new boy Gylfi Sigurdsson is confident that the club will be able to replace start midfielder Luka Modric and insists that they will thrive with or without the Croatian.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 finally looks set to depart from White Hart Lane this summer in what has been one of the longest running transfer sagas. Time after time, the Croatian has stated his will to leave the club in search of a new challenge and Champions League football.
Tottenham have so far managed to hold on to their player, knocking back repeated attempts by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 to lure the midfielder over the past two seasons. Now, the likes of Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have entered the fray, publicly
revealing their interest in the Croatian.
It seems like Modric will finally be able to leave the North London club this summer when new manager Andre Villas-Boas admitted to the prospect of losing him. Villas-Boas also stated that he will only let Modric leave if potential suitors agree to meet
the £40 million valuation.
As of now, Modric is still a Spurs player, but his departure is now only a matter of time, with Real Madrid looking like the most likely club to land his services.
Modric’s departure will weaken the Spurs midfield, since he has been their most effective player in the past few seasons. Tottenham signed Icelandic international playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson from German club Hoffenheim earlier this month, and despite being
highly rated midfielder, he is not seen as a direct replacement for Modric.
Tottenham are understood to be interested in bringing Porto’s Joao Moutinho to the club, but are at the moment unable to meet Porto’s asking price, with a deal expected to be completed once Modric is sold and Tottenham have sufficient funds to replace him.
Sigurdsson however is confident that the club will find a suitable replacement for Modric.
Speaking to English media, Sigurdsson said:
"He's a world-class player but when you're a top-class player you're going to be linked with other clubs, and he's probably going to one of the biggest clubs in the world."
"If that's true then I'm sure the club will bring someone in, but it's probably not for me to comment on. I wasn't here when he was here but I know he's a fantastic player and he's done really well for the club."
