Hoffenheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson revealed he was not certain about his future at Swansea City, following Brendan Rodgers appointment as the new Liverpool manager last week.
The Icelandic International, who arrived at the Liberty Stadium in January on-loan from Hoffenheim, recently agreed to sign a permanent contract with the Welsh outfit, for an estimated 6.8 million pounds transfer fee. Given the move goes ahead, the 22-year
old will become the most expensive Swansea player to date.
However Sigurdsson, reported to have joined the Swans at Rodgers request, revealed he was at first really excited about playing for the club, but Rodgers departure has changed things around.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I'd like to play on with Swansea since I was really happy there but after Brendan Rodgers left the club for Liverpool, that changed the situation.”
The midfielder, who took the central stage in the team upon his arrival at Liberty Stadium in January, made a significant impact over a brief spell, firing 7 goals in just 18 league appearances.

Nevertheless Sigurdsson mentioned that he plans on leaving Swansea, with all the current uncertainty surrounding the selection of new manager and admitted he was weighing up the option of joining Liverpool.
He continued, “I have said that my desire to continue playing in the Premier League and Liverpool is completely considered. Liverpool is a big club that has a glorious history.”
Liverpool spent more than 100 million pounds over the last one and a half year under Dalglish’s management, and it is no hidden secret that the owners are willing to flash the chequebooks all over again in the coming transfer window.
Rodgers is reported to have put Sigurdsson and Clint Dempsey as his prime transfer targets.
The midfielder unearthed that he met the Irishman soon after his appointment as the new boss at Anfield and was grateful to him for honing his abilities as a player.
He added, “I got in touch with Brendan when he was appointed Liverpool manager. I wish him congratulations and thanked him for a great time at Swansea.”
