Sihwan Kim battles against fatigue to remain in contention at the Rolex Trophy
South Korea’s Sihwan Kim battled the fatigue on day three of the Rolex Trophy and posted an impressive six-under par 66, to remain in contention for his first Challenge Tour victory at the Golf Club de Geneve.
Kim has been giving an outstanding performance right from the start of the tournament and suffered only one bogey – five on par-four 18th during the first round – for a 20-under par overall score.
He is now tied for the second position with a three-stroke deficit to the leader Kristoffer Broberg of Sweden.
“I’m not sure how I managed to shoot under par today, because my body started to shut down after six weeks on the road,” he explained. “It happened to me the last time I spent six weeks way, so I know I’m almost at the end of my limit. Hopefully the pressure
and buzz of the final day will get my body hyped up, because I felt really sluggish towards the end of my round”.
Until now, Kim has proved to be consistent in his ball striking and his short game. In total, he has managed to drain 21 birdies in the tournament and plans to improve the number in the final round.
“I need to rest up well tonight, and hopefully I’ll feel ready to go in the morning,” he said. “I’ve already been in contention a couple of times this season, so hopefully I can finish it off this time”.
However, the major problem ahead of him is Broberg sitting at the top, entering the final round. Broberg is flawless since he joined the European Challenge Tour and has recorded two victories along with two top-10 finishes in the first four tournaments that
he played.
With such a strong track record in the past one month, he is no doubt the favourite to win the tournament this week too.
Yet, in the game of golf, one cannot decide the winner until the final hole is completed on the final day.
Joachim B Hansen, in the meantime, is another contender for the top position after taking the share of the second place with a six-under par 66 third-round score.
