Sihwan Kim makes the cut at the Final Qualifying Stage of the European Tour’s Qualifying School
The US-based Korean Sihwan Kim fired a seven-under par 63 in the fourth round of the Final Qualifying Stage of the European Tour’s Qualifying School, to make the cut by just one shot.
The 108-hole tournament is being played at the PGA Catalunya Resort’s spectacular Stadium Course.
Kim started his fourth round campaign with the 124th position in hand and made a strong charge on the leaderboard by posting five birdies and an eagle on his scorecard.
He got off to a solid start by carding birdies on each of the first two holes that he played. A birdie on the seventh hole, followed by an eagle putt on the ninth hole took him to five-under for the round.
He then kept the momentum going into the back nine of the course and added another two shots to his scorecard on the 14th and the 15th hole.
At the end of the day, he found himself sharing the 56th position on the leaderboard, with a one-over par overall score.
Talking to the European Tour’s official website, he stated that he tried not to think about his disappointing performance in the third round that saw him falter for a five-over par 77.
“I didn’t really think much about it,” he said. “Yesterday I just hated playing golf and when I woke up this morning I wasn’t much better so I just said, ‘Let’s just get around and have some fun in Barcelona at the weekend and go back home’”.
He added, “Golf is a weird game; it disappoints you and then grants you whatever you like. It was a great round today”.
He also credited his putting technique behind his success in the fourth round and said that he will try to maintain consistency in the remaining two days of the tournament.
“I got up and down from everywhere and made a lot of par putts from seven to nine feet and that helped me quite a bit. I birdied all the hard holes,” he said.
Estanislao Goya and Andy Sullivan, in the meantime, entered the final two rounds with a one-stroke shared lead over a pack of five players.
