  2. The two answers above are absolute rubbish, silicone rubber is specifically used because it is resistant to oil and high temperatures.

    The basic answer is that silicone rubber does not degrade which is why it is used for applications like medical devices and for exterior building sealants where it is exposed to weathering elements such as UV that would quickly destroy normal hydrocarbon rubbers.

  3. Certain oil will destroy it.
