Silke Lippok claims Women's 400m freestyle gold: Day four – 2011 German SC Nationals
Silke Lippok of SSG Pforzheim claimed the title of Women's 400m freestyle on final day of the 2011 German Short Course Nationals on Sunday, November 27 in Wuppertal.
The 17-year-old Lippok remained prominent for gold spot from the start of the race as she ended her first round in a time of 27.83 seconds. She was trailed by Sarah Kohler of SG Frankfurt, who remained 0.87 seconds slower and covered the equivalent distance
in a time of 28.61 seconds.
Franziska Jansen of SV Nikar Heidelberg remained third fastest swimmer of the race as she ended her initial round in a time of 28.93 seconds. Lippok continued her exhausting efforts in the second round where she clocked a time of 58.22 seconds.
She was followed by Kohler and Jansen, who sustained their second and third fastest spots with timing of 59.46 and 59.95 seconds.
Lippok cemented her place as the top contender for gold medal in the next two rounds, where she ended her first half of the race in a time of 2 minutes and 00.38 seconds.
With her immaculate efforts, she remained nearly two seconds ahead of Kohler, who covered her initial 200 meters of the race in a time of 2 minutes and 02.21 seconds. The 19-year-old Jansen remained 1.04 seconds behind her former finisher and ended her first
half in a time of 2 minutes and 03.25 seconds.
The 17-year-old Lippok displayed her tremendous effort in the next two rounds, where she covered her 300 meters of the swim in a fastest time of 3 minutes and 03.04 seconds.
She remained 2.48 seconds ahead of Kohler, who posted a time of 3 minutes and 05.52 seconds for the equivalent distance while Jansen ended her swim in a time of 3 minutes and 06.88 seconds.
Lippok sustained her spot in the last two rounds, where she reported a time of 4 minutes and 06.96 seconds for gold medal. She was chased by Kohler and Jansen, who completed their swims with timings of 4:07.94 and 4:08.89 minutes for second and third position,
respectively.
The championship concluded after the completion of 400m event while the winners received medals after the session.
