Silke Lippok pockets Women’s 200m freestyle gold: Day four – 2011 European SC Swimming Championships
German freestyle veteran, Silke Lippok served notice of her talent by pocketing the title of Women’s 200m freestyle on day four of the 2011 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Szczecin, Poland on Sunday, December 11.
Lippok shattered hopes of her competitors in the first lap, where she ended her initial 50 metres of the race by submitting a wonderful time of 26.97 seconds. She was trailed by Melanie Costa Schmid of Spain, who remained 0.20 seconds behind her and covered the similar distance in a time of 27.17 seconds.
Evelyn Verraszto of Hungary was sighted as the third fastest swimmer of the event as she remained 0.14 seconds slower and completed her initial lap with an effort of 27.31 seconds.
The German expert continued her dictating efforts in the second lap of the race, where she completed her initial half of the swim in a fastest time of 56.16 seconds. She was followed by Costa Schmid, who remained 0.32 seconds behind her strongest rival and clocked a time of 56.48 seconds. Verraszto remained 0.14 seconds away from the Spanish swimmer and concluded her first half with an effort of 56.62 seconds.
The battle continued in the third lap, where Lippok cemented her place for the gold spot by completing her lap in a time of 1 minute and 25.04 seconds. She remained 0.62 seconds ahead of Costa Schmid, who sustained her second fastest spot by reporting a time of 1 minute and 25.66 seconds. She was trailed by Hungarian athlete, who remained 0.14 seconds slower than her former swimmer and clocked a time of 1 minute and 25.80 seconds.
Moments late, the crowd witnessed a wonderful effort of Lippok, who accelerated her swim in the final lap and clocked a time of 1 minute and 54.08 seconds for old medal. She was trailed by Costa Schmid and Verraszto, who earned second and third positions with efforts of 1:54.31 and 1:54.55 minutes, respectively.
Furthermore, the arena applauded for invincible effort of Lippok in the freestyle swim while the winners received their accolades after the conclusion of the final session.
