Was just wondering how on earth the jolly green giant (or simular) gets the kernals off the cob so perfectly when you buy the caned/frozen stuff. I just tried to get them off a whole cob with a knife and couldnt get to the root bit properly. How on earth do they do this big scale? Yes i am very bored.

  1. if your bored talk to me im bored

  2. They have these people called cob pickers. Very skilled people sit there all day picking off the kernals. You need at least 2 GCSE's D grade or less to do this.

  3. ha, thats funny. don't know though. good question. it has to be cut off though.

  4. theyy do it by machine....

  5. who dear? me dear? bored dear? yes dear.

Highly trained minions actually do the job. i asked my uncle, he works with in the corn business. It's sad because they actually enjoy it.

  6. Sweet corn that we eat is not shelled in the field.  Pickers pick the

corn, and the husk is on.  Back at the processing plant, the ears go

through huskers, which cut off the base of the ear, and strip of the

husks by rolling the ear on rollers which pull the husks off without

damaging the kernels.  The husked ears drop onto a belt, and workers

inspect the ears and feed them tip first into the cutting knives.  The

4 or 5 knives are mounted in a round holder which allows the knives to

open up.  The knives have a 90 deg bend so the tips, which are curved,

are parallel to the cob and form a circle.  They are very sharp, turn

very fast, and open and close depending on the diameter and shape of

the cob.  They cut very fast, very cleanly.  Cobs shoot straight

though and go to the waste pile, the cut corn falls onto another

conveyor.  Husks and cobs are chopped and made into silage for cattle

    feed.

  7. The corn factories are staffed by rows and rows of midgets with tiny knives.

  8. trying to get the corn off the cob(!) wow that sounds really fun(!) better than watching paint dry (I'm painting my room) but to answer your question they might have a special 'corn remover from the cob' machine. if not i think i will invent that machine and it will be called 'corn on the cob remover' and i will win a noble prize for it!
