Silva, Lorre qualify for the second round of Boys’ Singles – Wimbledon Championships 2011
Frederico Ferre Silva beats Patrick Ofner 3-6, 6-3, 6-2
Portuguese Frederico Ferre Silva came back after dropping the first set to upset twelfth seed Patrick Ofner of Austria in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of the boys’ singles event at the Wimbledon Championships in
London on Saturday. Silva took an hour and 45 minutes to overpower his opponent in a tough contest.
In the first set, Ofner broke the Portuguese in the eighth game and served out the set at 5-3. The Austrian hit 58 percent of the first serves and three winners in the opening set.
Ofner was looking to grab the match quickly as he broke his opponent in the first game of the second set and held his serve in the next game, racing to a 2-0 lead. However, Silva turned around the match as he bagged six of the
next seven games, breaking the Austrian in the fourth and eighth game to win the set 6-3.
The Portuguese carried the winning momentum into the third set and lost only two games, breaking Ofner twice and sealing the set 6-2. Silva hit nine winners and a single ace in the final set. The Portuguese capitalised on both
break point opportunities he created on Ofner’s serve and saved the two break points he faced on his own serve in the deciding set.
Silva is drawn to meet Hassan Ndayishimiye of Burundi in the round of 32.
Joris De Lorre defeats Nikola Milojevic 6-2, 6-4
Joris De Loore of Belgium thrashed Serbian Nikola Milojevic in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the second round. The match lasted for an hour and twenty minutes.
The Belgian allowed his opponent to win just two games in the first set, breaking him in the third and fifth game to seal the set 6-2. De Loore delivered six aces and thirteen winners in the opening set. The Belgian clinched six
of the eight net approach points in the first set.
De Loore did not allow his opponent to come back in the match and broke Milojevic in the fifth game of the second set, consolidating on it and bagging the set 6-4. The Belgian did not have an impressive first serve percentage,
delivering just 43 percent of the first serves in the second set. De Loore won one of the three break points he received and saved all the four break points he received in the second set.
The Belgian is slated to play sixth seed Roberto Carballes Baena of Spain or Andrew Bettles of Great Britain in the second round.
