Silva Completes Move to City
Spain star and former Valencia player, David Silva, has completed his move to Manchester City after successfully coming through a medical.
Silva becomes the very latest high profile player to join Manchester City as they continue their quest to try and take the club to new levels. He joins Yaya Toure in the City squad and arrives at the club with a big reputation.
Manchester City narrowly missed out on Champions League football last season to Tottenham Hotspur. It seems that with the recent arrival of high quality signings that fourth place would be the absolute minimum that the club would be willing to accept this year.
Silva is a very good player and he arrives at the club with a great deal of quality and a number of attributes that will make him a key player in the side. However, the obvious questions are going to be raised about Manchester City all over again as they now have one of the biggest squads in the Premier League.
Quality
You do not play for Spain and Valencia regularly if you are a bad player. Silva arrives at City as a very slick passer of a football and someone who is technically gifted in the game.
He has pace to burn and this will make him effective in the wider areas of the field where he is likely to play for City. He has a few skills up his sleeve that he can use to get beyond the last defender before racing into the box to either score or square for someone else.
Silva has played a lot of games for Valencia and won many caps for Spain. This gives him knowledge of football that very few other players have. He will be able to use it to his advantage when he starts his City career.
He said: "I'm very happy with what we did this summer - it's the best time that any player can have. I am looking forward to starting the season with my new team, I'm excited about my new team. And I will be happy if at the end we are in the Champions League - or if we win a trophy."
Familiar Problems
The same familiar problems that seem to plague each generation of this current Manchester City team are bound to come up again because the club don't seem able to cap the quality players in their squad.
The midfield and attacking parts of the squad are full of players who can play in a variety of positions. There are currently three or four other players that can play in a similar position to Silva and he will have to work much harder to stay in the side than he did at Valencia.
Sooner or later players are going to get annoyed because they are not in the team. This will create problems that could damage squad harmony and team morale during a very important season for Manchester City.
Advice
The most realistic option you have at the moment is to back City to be in the Champions League by the end of the next domestic season. They are not likely to win the Premier League because they lack the experience and the tactics to do so.
It's impossible at the moment to pick the first Manchester City team for the new season and because of this you should back off to wait and see if Silva features in any of the early season plans. If he does then he could score one or two goals as an attacking midfield player.
