Silvana Lima and Carissa Moore through to the semifinals of the Billabong Rio Pro 2011
Silvana Lima of Brazil has made a semifinal berth by winning the first quarterfinal heat over Tyler Wright of Australia at the final day of Billabong Rio Pro 2011 in Barra Da Tijuca on Sunday, May 15.
Lima clinched the quarterfinal heat over Wright by a margin of 13.63 to 12.27 out of 20.
“I’m so excited to have matched my best result in front of my home crowd. Of course I wanted to make the Final, but I’m so happy with my result and thanks to everyone for all of the support,” said Lima.
Meanwhile, Wright didn't look too disappointed with her heat in the quarterfinal as according to her, she gave her best in the heat.
Silvana Lima is the most popular surfer in Brazil and has won many titles in competitive surfing including, the 2008 Billabong WQS, Praia Do Forte in Brazil, 2008 Mr. Price Pro crown in Durban, South Africa, the 2009 Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach WCT and Beachly
Classic Sydney WCT, to name a few.
Silvana Lima is best known for her acrobatic surfing style and thrilling speed during the heats. The surfer loves to take on new challenges is known for her resilient nature.
Meanwhile, Hawaiian surfer Carissa Moore defeated Courtney Conlogue of USA in the second quarterfinal to earn a place in the semifinal of the event. Moore scored an 11.50 as opposed to her opponent’s 9.93.
“I just went out there and had fun and to me there was no pressure in the Final. I was just stoked to be in the Final regardless of how I finished. Obviously I’m happy that I won. The girls really didn’t go on those lefts, but they worked out for me today,”
said Moore.
Moore admitted that she was really tense ahead of the heat, primarily on the prospect of facing Lima, who is considered a favourite for the event. The surfer though, revealed that she was feeling really confident at the same time and would try her best to
come out on top.
