Silvana Lima downs Paige Hareb to enter Quarter-finals at Roxy Pro Gold Coast – Surfing News
Brazil’s Silvana Lima got the better of New Zealand’s Paige Hareb in the second heat of Roxy Pro Gold Coast’s Round 4 that went down at Snapper Rocks in Queensland, Australia, on Tuesday, February 28.
With her success in Round 4, Lima advanced through into the Quarter-finals while bringing the competition to a premature end for her rival.
The 2012 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Tour returned to Snapper Rocks for the fourth consecutive day of action. The best surfers from around the globe had gathered at Gold Coast, searching for a solid result at the opening stop
of women’s elite tour.
With two-to-three foot waves on offer at the primary event site, the surfers were aware of the challenge that awaited them during their search for big scores. There was not enough juice in the waves to allow them to go for the more technical combination
of tricks, unless luck decided to side with them and Mother Nature sent a high-performance wave in their direction.
The second heat of the fourth round pitted Lima against Hareb in a crucial battle for the Quarter-final spot. The Brazilian surfer had tasted defeat at the hands of Australia’s Tyler Wright, while the New Zealand-based surfer had succumbed to Australia’s
Laura Enever during their respective Round 3 heats.
The must-win situation in Round 4 put both the surfers under immense pressure as there was not a lot of room for error. They needed to step up their performance to become worthy of entering the Quarter-finals.
As the heat kicked-off, Hareb good off to a relatively better start. She locked a wave a few minutes into the heat to post a 5.00 on the score-board. A few minutes of waiting eventually enabled her to add an additional 5.50 points to her account, taking
her heat-total to 10.50 points.
Despite getting off to a relatively slow start, Lima kept building momentum as the heat progressed, Almost half-way through the heat, she managed to post a 6.50 on the score-board off her first business wave. She soon added an impressive 8.23 points to her
account to get to a heat-total of 14.73 points, consequently claiming the win as well as the Quarter-final spot.
The surfing action continued at Snapper Rocks with the remaining heats of Roxy Pro Gold Coast’s Round 4.
