Silvanus set for strong comeback after an exhaustive training week
After his back-to-back unsuccessful ventures of July and August, the Paul Midgley trained bay gelding, Silvanus, resorted to a week-long training session with a view to fix at least some of the fault lines that caused him damage at Goodwood and York.
Today, the seven-year-old veteran horse is going to test his newly-learnt techniques in the high-voltage race of Piper Heidsieck Champagne Handicap that will go down at Sandown. Over the good track of 5 furlongs and 6 yards, he will face 14 competitors.
Success will earn him £8,093.
It is hoped that the brilliant gelding will stage a strong comeback after a short break. He is going to sprint at this venue after a long time but the race conditions are ideal for him to perform.
During June-July, the son of Danehill Dancer out of Mala Mala made a few glorious marks. After winning the Leicester Mercury Handicap, he finished as the runner-up in Jenners & Frasers Handicap (Div I)---he was the 5-2 favourite for the second race.
The Colin Alton owned skilled horse elegantly claimed the title of AGA iTotal Control Handicap at Chester and went on to seal top spot in the Betfred Handicap that took place at Pontefract.
This excellent feat was followed by a couple of below-par performances that provoked the trainer to school the gelding for some days.
In today’s marathon, Silvanus will have all the chances to thrive. Face The Problem is the only rival who can create some problem for him.
The Jamie Osborne trained bay gelding derived a lot of confidence from his convincing victory in the 17-runner event of 70th Birthday Keith Bownes Handicap that was held at Doncaster on August 18.
Today, the young horse will try to apply that confidence in a bid to gain second straight success. However, he will have to be extra-ordinarily well to make this dream true as Silvanus is not likely to spare him any chance to thrive.
Supposedly, there will be witnessed a fiery clash in the race. It will be enjoyable to watch the way Silvanus sizzles. Good luck to him.
