Question:

Silver Arowana and Platinum arowana!

I have a 10cm silver arowana in a 5000gallon pond, heated, covered and all the basics. What I would like to know is how can I make my sillver arowana live life to the fullest. I want him to have fun. He also seems lonely so I want to put a platinum arowana with him, though I heard they are really expensive. Would you guys be as kind to tell me how much it would cost for a 10 to 20cm platinum arow.

  1. Take Jon V's advice.  Arowanas are highly territorial and two in the same tank, even in a large pond such as yours, will result in a fight.  The end would predictably be the death of the newcomer.

Perhaps you may consider other species of large fish as companion to your arowana.  Or get a group of arowanas, not just one.  This will certainly put a dent in your pocket, though.

Don't know the cost of a platinum arowana.  I just see them in pictures, not an actual live one.  But, yes, they are reportedly very expensive!

  2. ok, well he will not really care if he has a friend. You can get a 10-20 cm oscar for a lot cheaper than a platinum arow. But a 10-20 cm platinum arow should cost about.....well at my local fish store a 6 inch ones was 350$! Kinda expensive! You can also feed him live fish to make him more active.

  3. Hard to say honestly, I don't hardly ever see a Platinum Arowana around enough to know what the rates would be.  It seems to me you have a good enough sized home for them, but I'd like to make a small point here, and it's totally up to you.  If you group Arowana, you should group them in groups of at least 5-10.  While this is much space for them to have, aggression is likely to set in on the new commer and if you keep groups of 5-10, aggression will likely get diverted out among the group so no one Arowana would be targeted too much.  I bring this point up as you are likely to pay a very high price for a Platinum, and it would rather suck to have it just die due to a fight.  Consider adding a few of the lesser expensive Silvers first, then get your Platinum after.
