Silver Max aiming to continue his winning streak in the American Derby at Arlington Park
After five consecutive victories, the Dale Romans trained, Silver Max, is aiming for his sixth in the Grade 3 American Derby, scheduled to take place at Arlington Park on 14th July, 2012, over 1 3/16 miles.
Teamed with jockey, Robby Albarado, he will be racing with equal weights of 126 pounds with Daddy Nose Best, who will be the mount for jockey, Julien R. Leparoux.
This is the last preparation race for the son of Badge of Silver, foaled by mare Kissin Rene, before he heads off to compete in the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes over the distance of 1 1/4 miles at the same track.
If the three-year-old manages to land the victory or secures a placed finish, he will enter the Secretariat Stakes without a starting or an entrance fee.
The Mark Bacon and Dana Wells owned runner started his winning streak when he won the Claimers Race at Gulfstream Park over 1 1/16 miles, and defeated, Situational Ethics in 1 minute and 40.86 seconds.
In his most recent start, the Kentucky bred colt was mounted by Victor Lebron in the Oliver Stakes at Indiana Downs, where he briskly covered the 1 mile distance in 1 minute and 33.88 seconds and defeated stable-mate, Cozzetti, who was riding under
jockey, Corey Lanerie.
Cozzetti will also be competing in this event, taking his chances and hoping for the best. Stable-mate, Quick Wit, will also compete with the hope of landing a solid finish.
Owned by Michael J. Bruder, Quick Wit looks in good form and, his recent victory in the Allowance Race at Churchill Downs has given his connections the confidence they need.
Over the course of 1 1/8 miles, he managed to defeat, Chalice, in 1 minute and 48.93 seconds, whereas Sark, finished in third place.
Dale Romans dominates the line-up with three of his runners but, Silver Max looks in the best possible form. Provided he brings his winning form to the track, nothing will stand between him and his sixth consecutive victory.
A free trip to the Secretariat Stakes will just be icing on the cake.
