Silver Max headed to make it 5 in a row in the Oliver Stakes at Indiana Downs
The 3-year-old Silver Max, has emerged as the top sophomore turf horse, especially after putting together a four race win streak on grass, and is now likely to notch his fifth win in as many starts when he take on serious competition in the $200,000 Oliver
Stakes at Indiana Downs on 13 June, 2012.
The 1 mile event on turf has reeled in a massive field of 3-year-olds, with eleven runners will look to down the race. Placed in third in the Grade 2 American Turf, Howe Great will not be participating in the Oliver Stakes.
“I am pretty sure we will stay and run in New York this weekend rather than ship out there,” trainer Graham Motion said by phone Monday.
Trainer Graham Motion has planned a trip for Indiana Downs for, Howe Great, but decided against it, and wanted the colt to run in the Grade 3 Hill Prince Stakes at Belmont Park.
Trained by Dale Romans for owner Mark Bacon, Silver Max broke his maiden this year on turf at Gulfstream Park, and immediately switched to dirt to run in the Grade 3 Holy Bull Stakes, but that experience wasn’t a good one, as Silver Max finished fifth on
the day.
Reverting back to grass, Silver Max downed a claimer at about 1 1/16 miles staying at Gulfstream Park, and in his next start became a graded stakes winner, when he won the Grade 3 Transylvania Stakes over the Keeneland’s turf course.
A slightly tougher field awaited the son of Badge of Silver, when he ran in the Grade 2 American Turf Stakes at Churchill Downs, but Silver Max proved himself fair and square when he downed Travel Advisory for the second time running in second and Howe Great
in third to win the 1 1/16 mile event.
Out of Kissin Kris mare Kissin Rene, Silver Max is exiting a victory in the Arlington Classic at Arlington Park on 26 May, 2012.
“I don’t have any worries at all in this race,” he said Monday. “I don’t think they will be able to outrun him.”
“He won on him at Keeneland and he gets on him in the morning.” Romans said. “Silver Max is an easy horse to ride, just get him out of the gate and get him rolling and then hold on.”
