Silver squares that read 1/4 oz???

Question Details: I have bought a house that was auctioned. We are cleaning out the property as all of the previous owners things were left here. I found two squares, attached that look silver and are shiny. Some sort of white cushy material is on the back, but on the sides (each end) you can see more layers of the silver that is on top (like thin flat pieces stacked). On top of the squares, the following is on each: 1/4 oz and 7 gm.

Is this real silver? If it is, what can be done with it? I sort of wonder if its simply a unit of measurement for something. I was unsure of where to post this, so have included it in many categories.

  1. Sounds like some kind of weights for measuring something, possibly on a balance.  Probably not silver.  An antique dealer could probably tell you what they are and if they are worth anything.  A Jeweler could tell you if they are silver.
