Silver war nickel coin?

this coin dealer in my town is selling silver war nickels at 80 cents for one and he has like 50.

Do you think i should buy them?

  1. Silver war nickels are very common in low circulated grades and only command a price usually a little above spot value of the silver. Dealers usually pay a percentage less than spot so they can make a profit. I am not sure what silver is doing right this minute but a while back it was around $16 an ounce for London spot value. If it is the same, then there is .90 cents worth of silver in it. If silver goes up by a few dollars an ounce you will do okay, if not when you sell you may only get .45 cents each. The dealer is being fair and it will depend on how long you keep them. If you are willing to wait a few years then it is an okay buy as for the silver, but the coins in low grade will never be worth much to collectors.
