What is it?

I keep hearing about it every time i go on the Microsoft Website,but i still don't know what it is! ;(

All i know,is that it's a "Cross Browser Compatible"so i know it will work on my "XP PC" as i have "Internet Explorer"/"BT Yahoo Browser".

Here are a few questions i have;

What is Silverlight for? (know Jargon please!;)

Will it change the way my PC boots up?

Does it change the Design of my Window's when i'm on the Web?

If i Download it,then decide that i don't like it,...can it be un-installed without messing up my PC?

Can someone tell me what it's all about,then i can decide if i want to download it or not?

Thankyou for all the feedback in advance! ;)

  1. Silverlight is another media player like "Windows Media Player." Its sole purpose however is to put adobe Flash player" out of business" .  The only purpose now is it to be used when watching the Olympics on the web. This is because MS and NBC teamed up and already have a relationship.  It will not mess up your PC or the way your PC boots up.  If you are using it to watch the Olympics, no problem.  I would just make sure you delete it after they are over-it's easy to uninstall.  I personally use it to watch the Olympics off the web through other country servers.  I live on the west coast and NBC is providing everything at tape delay and when they do provide coverage, they switch around so much I have no idea what's happening and in what context.

    I use Slingbox with my friends overseas and Silverlight.  I will not change the design of windows.

    I personally don't like Silverlight. It's pretty bad and choppy and just can't handle streaming very well.

  5. Hi, Silverlight is a plugin for your browser just like flash is in simple terms. Flash allows u to watch movies in the .flv format by creating a mini video player on your browser like on youtube.

    Silverlight is the same thing except it isn't really adopted much though its video quality is actually pretty good :)

    Your pc boot up won't be affected.

    No, it won't change the design of windows.

    yes it can be uninstalled from add/remove programs in the control center but u won't really notice it anyway, its just a browser plugin and not software.

    Take care!
