Silverstone expected to unveil its multi-million pound pits and paddock complex
Recent reports have revealed that the renovated Silverstone circuit, which is going to be a part of Formula 1 circuit this year, for the British Grand Prix is going to unveil its new pits and paddock. It is expected that the organizers spent millions of
pounds on its construction.
The British Grand Prix is expected to take place on the 10th of July and according to the new deal signed by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) and the organizers of Silverstone, the British race is going to be a part of the sport
for the next 17 years.
“It's been a bit of a rollercoaster getting here but we are finally up and running”, BRDC (British Racing Drivers’ Club) president Damon Hill told the media.
Reports have revealed that the renovated “Wing” of the circuit has cost the organizers £27m. As a result the start finish line of the circuit for the Formula 1 and MotoGP events is going to be between Club and Abbey corners.
Silverstone staged its first British Grand Prix in 1948 and now it is expected that it is going to be a part of Formula 1 until 2027.
“This year's grand prix and all the major international events will take place using the new facility. Silverstone has got a right to a permanent place on the calendar and so we hope this is a long-term thing that will make the circuit smart”, Hill added.
The 17 year long deal was confirmed since the CEO of Formula 1 Management warned that a renovating the pits of Silverstone is a non-negotiable part of the agreement.
Before this, it was expected that the British Grand Prix might move on to the Donington Park circuit but due to lack of funding, this deal was not secured by the organizers of the sport.
The new pits include 41 garages, the race control building along with the podium and hospitality suites. A media centre has also been built alongside a new spectator’s area near the end of the lap.
