Silverstone to have one Drag Reduction System zone for British Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Unlike Valencia and Montreal, Silverstone is going to have just one Drag Reduction System zone for the British Grand Prix but it seems that it is going to be quite affective and useful for the drivers in terms of overtaking.
DRS is a device which enables a driver to change the rear aerodynamics of his respective car during the race but since the teams are allowed to use this device at just one zone of the circuit according to the officials, the drivers try their best to take
the advantage over their rivals within this zone.
The DRS zone of Silverstone is going start before the new turn three which is the detection point and it will end before turn 6 after the run down straight.
The officials admitted that they considered having two DRS zones for Silverstone as well with the second one near the old pit straight but since they have already had two zones for the past two races, they claim that having just one zone for the British
Grand Prix will be sufficient.
Both Montreal and Valencia had a double DRS zone which means that if a driver overtakes his rival, then the rival is not allowed to use his device at the second zone.
Many professionals criticised the double DRS zones and claimed that this was making overtaking a bit too easy for the drivers. This rule was quite successful in Canada but at the European Grand Prix, it was quite disappointing and the overtaking rate decreased
quite noticeably.
Nevertheless, the British Grand Prix is expected to take place this weekend and it seems that the race is going to be an eye-opener for most of the teams as they would finally get to know their true pace since the off-throttle Blown Diffusers will be banned.
The Red Bull Racing team might lose some pace this weekend and the fight up in front for the titles might get a little more interesting.
