Silvia Di Pietro clinches Women's 50m butterfly title– 2011 Italian Grand Prix
Silvia Di Pietro of Italy demonstrated her gruelling efforts and clinched the title of Women's 50m butterfly at the 2011 Italian Grand Prix on Saturday, November 19.
The 18-year-old De Pietro overwhelmed the efforts of her competitors in the 50m discipline by acquiring the title of event. She clocked a phenomenal time of 27.12 seconds to cement her place on the medal rostrum for gold medal.
With her immaculate efforts, she remained 0.07 seconds faster from her competitor, Ilaria Bianchi, who hit the wall with the second fastest timing of 27.19 seconds for silver medal.
The second position holder was trailed by 29-year-old Chiara Mazzoni, who was 0.40 seconds slower than her former finisher and reached the podium for bronze medal with an effort of 27.59 seconds.
The fourth spot of the race was secured by Beatrica Restori, who was 1.50 seconds behind her preceding swimmer and hit the wall with a timing of 29.09 seconds. She was chased by Viviana Zampetti, who remained only 0.10 seconds slower and finished fifth by
producing an effort of 29.19 seconds.
The sixth spot of the race was claimed by Alice Tantalo, who was 0.35 seconds away from Zampetti and concluded her swim in a sixth fastest time of 29.54 seconds.
In the meantime, Evgeny Korotyshkin of Russia occupied the title of Men’s 50m butterfly event by submitting a time of 23.81 seconds. The 28-year-old Russian was trailed by Piero Codia of Italy, who remained 0.46 seconds behind him and posted a time of 24.27
seconds for silver medal.
With his outstanding efforts, Codia edged out his competitor Paolo Facchinelli with the difference of 0.06 seconds. Facchinelli stepped on the podium for bronze medal by producing a nice time of 24.33 seconds.
He was trailed by Tommaso Romani, who remained 0.28 seconds slower than his former finisher and settled on the finishing end as fourth finest swimmer with an effort of 24.61 seconds. He remained 0.27 seconds ahead of Andrea Farru, who ended his swim in a
time of 24.88 seconds for fifth position.
In addition, the session came to an end after the completion of all scheduled events in Men's and Women's category.
