Silvia Soler-Espinosa, Ahsha Rolle move into the second qualifying round at 2011 Grand Prix De SAR
Silvia Soler-Espinosa vs. Johanna Konta
Spaniard Silvia Soler-Espinosa, 167th in the world, cast out Johanna Konta of Australia in three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the first round of qualifying draw of the 2011 Grand Prix De SAR.
The Spaniard, Soler-Espinosa, kicked off the opener, hammering two aces and 53 percent of her first serves. Konta on the other hand hit no ace but managed to land 59 percent on her first serves. Soler-Espinosa played at her worse
converting 56 percent on her first serves whereas Konta was far better with a 59 percent gain. Saving 83 percent of breakpoints in service and 100 percent of points in return, Konta clinched the first set with a 6-4 score line.
In the second set, Soler-Espinosa hit 59 percent of the first serves, winning 74 percent of points on them. Konta on the other hand fired in 68 percent of the first serves and won a meager 57 percent on them. By a fluke, the higher
ranked Soler-Espinosa saved 57 percent points in total as compared to Konta’s 43 percent and levelled the match with one set a piece.
In the decider, Soler-Espinosa struck 35 percent of the first serves, whereas Konta was much better with a 56 percent on stats. Soler-Espinosa won 50 percent points on her first serves and 73 percent points on her second serves.
Breaking Konta’s serves in the second and fifth game, Soler-Espinosa clinched the match in straight sets.
Ahsha Rolle vs. Habiba Ifrakh
American Ahsha Rolle ousted wild card entrant Habiba Ifrakh of Morocco in straights sets in the first round of qualifying draw. The American completed her victory in just fifty eight minutes to ensure her presence at the second
qualifying round of the event.
In the opening set, Rolle delivered three aces, double faulted once and converted 85 percent of her first serves, whereas the Moroccan committed six double faults and converted 58 percent points on her 58 percent serves. Rolle
saved 9 of 11 break point opportunities and emerged victorious with a 6-2 score line.
The final set saw the 26-year-old American hitting a single ace and 73 percent of first serves. Ifrakh on the other hand, double faulted four times and won a meagre 30 percent on her first serves. Rolle won 82 percent on her first
serves and broke her opponent to take the match with a bagel.
Soler-Espinosa and Rolle will be facing each other in the second round of the Grand Prix qualifying singles.
