Simao Sabrosa to join Besiktas
Enrique Cerezo, President of Atletico Madrid, announced that Simao Sabrosa would be joining the Turkish football giants, Besiktas in the January transfer window.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984 international will be saying goodbye to the club he played for 3 years after joining the Madrid side from Benfica in 2006-07 season. Sabrosa spent 3 great seasons with the Los Colchoneros as they won the Europa League
and the UEFA Super Cup last season.
The 31-year old will play his final game for Atletico Madrid in the Copa Del Ray against Espanyol this Thursday at home.
Cerezo revealed that the 31-year old will leave Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window and he will be expected to stay at Besiktas for at least two seasons.
Reportedly, Besiktas will pay Atletico a sum of 2 million Euros for the services of the winger, whose contract was going to expire by the end of the current season. A contract extension for the experienced winger was not on the
cards so the club officials seem happy to let go off the winger for something rather than nothing altogether.
Besiktas will do well to utilize Simao’s experience as they are in 5th place in the Turkish Super League with just 28 points and are 14 points behind surprise league leaders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Trabzonspor-c40759.
Simao started his pro career with Sporting Clube de Portugal and played 53 matches in a 2-year career at the club that included 12 goals before joining Spanish giants Barcelona in 1999 for a fee of 15 million Euros, where he paired
up with compatriot, Luis Figo. However, it seemed that the expectations made the young Simao succumb to the pressure and he left the Spanish side in 2001 to join Portuguese club, Benfica. During his 6-year stint at Benfica, he became a fan favourite, went
on to play 172 games for the side, and scored 76 goals. In his 6-year stay with the ‘Encarnados’, Simao helped the side to win the Portuguese league in the 2004-05 season.
After he moves to Besiktas, Simao will join the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Guti-c15452 and Mehmet Aurelio.
