Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012: Paula Creamer finishes as best American contender in roster
American Paula Creamer displayed a good performance in the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 as she carded an overall 275 to finished tied for the sixth position along with Australian Lindsey
Wright.
Creamer, who enjoyed plenty of crowd support at the prestigious Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club throughout the four days, was determined not to surrender to her nerve this time, and she
got off to a sensible start.
The American star shot a 69 in the opening round on Thursday, which helped her gain much-needed confidence. The round saw her shoot three birdies and one bogey.
Commentators said that it was a nice start, especially in a line-up that featured hot favourites like defending champion Na Yeon Choi of South Korea, current world number one Yani Tseng, American
Stacy Lewis, Suzann Pettersen and Lexi Thompson.
The second round remained the best as Creamer reeled off six birdies to cement her position on the leaderboard. Although the round was not without flaws as she carded two bogeys, a flurry
of birdies helped her surge past her nearest rivals.
Commentators said that Creamer, who ranks among the best players in the United States, was the only American in the line-up who gave a tough time to Asian rivals.
The LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) titan displayed her best form in the final round as she shot a 69, fully capitalising on favourable weather and course conditions.
She started the round on Sunday by parring the first hole and then shot a birdie on the par-4 second. On the 6th hole, Creamer handled the ball well on the greens and sank a birdie-putt
to further boost her score on the leaderboard.
Although confident about her capabilities, Creamer could not trouble star performers of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012.
South Korean Inbee Park, who was not among the hot favourites before the LPGA tournament started, displayed a stellar performance in all four rounds, posting a 269 to win the title.
On the other hand, the runner-up was also an Asian contender. South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who was the defending champion of the tournament, registered an overall score of 271 and took the second
position on the leaderboard.
