Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012: Sydnee Michaels stands strong in first two rounds
American Sydnee Michaels was more than thrilled at the end of the first two rounds of Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 as she managed to shoot a 69 and 65 respectively, but she faltered on the
final two days, denting her position on the leaderboard.
Michaels displayed quite a stunning performance right from the start at the prestigious Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, despite the fact that the roster featured some of the strongest
LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars like current world number one Yani Tseng, Stacy Lewis, Lexi Thompson, Suzann Pettersen, Inbee Park, Paula Creamer and Na Yeon Choi.
Commentators said that the American star has shown that she can rattle any player on the Tour right now, as she has trained hard and her putting is now better than ever before.
However, despite getting off to a fiery start that could have helped her finish inside the top 10, Michaels lost momentum in the third round, posting an unimpressive 75.
A 65 in the second round was something she desperately needed. She started the round on Friday in impressive style as she shot her first birdie on the second hole. She then parred the next
five holes and drained another birdie on the par-4 8th.
On the back nine, Michaels’s performance gripped the spectators’ attention as she reeled off five straight birdies from the 11th hole to the difficult par-3 15th.
Sharing her thoughts about her stellar performance in the second round of Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012, Michaels said that she just focused on her putting on the greens and it worked well
for her despite the fact that the course had several tricky holes.
“I mean, I definitely got on a roll. I gave myself good birdie chances every time. I made the putts. So I was rolling the ball really well today. So, yeah, it was overall a solid round,”
she said on Friday.
“I think the beginning of my year was a little bit of a hit-or-miss. I'd either be way up there in contention or I would miss the cut. Then I would say the last like six, seven weeks or so,
more than that, I've really kind of calmed down a little bit, and it's been much more consistent. So it's been fun”.
