Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia: Ai Miyazato hopes to capitalise on crowd support
Japanese Ai Miyazato is happy that she is not going to feel out of place in a solid line-up at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 as plenty of Japanese fans are expected to show up at Kuala
Lumpur Golf and Country Club to spur her on.
Miyazato is all set to tee off the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 on Thursday, but in a tournament featuring most of the top-ranked LPGA (Ladies professional Golf Association) stars, she appears
to be in a much stronger position when it comes to crowd support — something she needs to keep her momentum going till the final day.
Miyazato wants her diehard Japanese fans to flock to the course in large numbers in all the four rounds, keeping in mind the massive support other players are likely to enjoy.
“I've seen so many Japanese fans out there every single year, and that makes me really happy. Japanese people are everywhere in the world right now, but now the LPGA has so many tournaments
all over the world, and it's nice to see the Japanese people out there. Wherever you are, you can see the Japanese fans, that means a lot to me,” Miyazato said.
The Japanese star said that her performance has not been so good at this tournament as she has finished below average in the last three editions.
“I've been playing this tournament three years in a row, and the results are not very good so far. But I still have Japanese fans, and also the local fans, too, they're always calling me
Miyazato-san in Japanese”.
Although the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia 2012 is going to feature local players as well, the spotlight is likely to remain on stars from other Asian countries such as Taiwan and South Korea.
Key players who can become the star performers of the tournament include Stacy Lewis of the United States, current world number one Yani Tseng, defending champion Na Yeon Choi, Paula Creamer,
Shanshan Feng, Sun Young Yoo, I.K. Kim, Jiyai Shin, Lexi Thompson, Cristie Kerr, Lexi Thompson and Angela Stanford.
Observers said the spectators in Malaysia will obviously be rooting for Asians, but it is not going to overshadow American line-up which is featuring some of the best players such as Stacy
Lewis and Paula Creamer.
