Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia: Officials thrilled to see major winners in roster
Officials of Sime Darby have expressed hope that the presence of all four major winners in the upcoming edition of the tournament will make the rich line-up even stronger.
Managing Director of Sime Darby Property and Committee Member of the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia, Datuk Wahab Maskan said while speaking to the media that the officials of the tournaments are
more than happy to see a stronger field this season, saying major winners will definitely intensify the level of competition.
“We are thrilled to have all four Major winners in the field. This is the strongest field we’ve had at the Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia and spectators can look forward to some fantastic entertainment
at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club,” Maskan shared.
In a field loaded with stars like current world number one Yani Tseng, Stacy Lewis of the United States, Paula Creamer and Suzann Pettersen, the participation of South Korean Jiyai Shin, Na
Yeon Choi, Sun Young Yoo and Shanshan Feng will lure more spectators and media attention.
Maskan said that since the 2012 season has some surprise finishes, fans in Malaysia are going to see a much tougher battle.
“This year has been one of the most exciting seasons on the LPGA Tour, with many close battles and dramatic finishes, and with nine of the world’s top-10 golfers competing here, it promises
to be a week to remember for both players and fans alike,” Maskan said.
Jiyai Shin won the Ricoh Women’s British Open 2012 held recently at Wirral, United Kingdom. Na Yeon Choi was the victor at the 2102 US Women’s Open and is also the defending champion of Sime
Darby LPGA Malaysia.
The other two major winners, Sun Young Yoo and Shanshan Feng, proved their worth at Kraft Nabisco Championship and LPGA Championship 2012 respectively.
Maskan went on to say the officials made all-out efforts to put this tournament in the limelight and they are sure the event is going to be much more rewarding than they have anticipated.
Golf in Malaysia is thriving and tournaments like Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia are a good platform for local contenders wishing to start a promising career on the Tour.
