Simenon completes his hat-trick in a grand manner in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Ascot
It was none other than jockey, Ryan Moore, who guided the W.P. Mullins, trained, Simenon, to his second victory at Royal Ascot in the Queen Alexandra Stakes (Conditions Race) at Ascot on 23rd June, 2012.
The five-year-old ran an incredible race over the distance of 2 miles, and 5 ½ furlongs. With his sheer skill and speed, he came out on top and justified his favourite tag.
The son of Marju, out of mare, Epistoliere, claimed the victory by a tremendous margin of 7 lenghts ahead of Shahwardi, while the third place was secured by the Ed Dunlop trained, Romeo Montague.
It was a challenging run for the bay gelding, and he didn’t look too strong in the beginning, but gained pace in the closing stages and made it home.
The winning trainer was delighted with the performance of his runner and commented:
"You always hope you might get a winner here and it's great when you do, but to get two at the same meeting is even better.
"Much of the credit goes to his lad, Martin, who has done a fantastic job getting him to eat and drink, and while he was free for Ryan on Tuesday, he was so much more settled this time. We'll keep going on the Flat with him."
The trainer reflected on the performance of the runner on 19th June, 2012, when he ran in the Ascot Stakes (Handicap), and briskly completed the course of 2 miles and 4 furlongs.
It was Moore, who guided him to that victory over the David Simcock trained, Al Khawaneej, by a margin of six lengths, while Neil King’s charge, Nafaath, finished third.
The race favourite, Elyaadi, finished in fourteenth place in a line-up of twenty runners.
The runner raced with a fervour never seen before, and surely he has a bright future ahead of him.
The victory completed his hat-trick, which started at Cork when he defeated, Dazzling Susie by a tremendous margin of 15 lengths in the Friday Evening Racing Hurdle in May, 2012, over a distance of 2 miles.
