Atletico Madrid boss, Diego Simeone, acknowledges the danger posed by Getafe to his side when they meet them on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey.
The two teams will face off at the Vicente Calderon stadium for their first leg of the Copa del Rey last-16.
The Rojiblancos are currently in fine form and they have already defeated Getafe 2-0 at the same ground in La Liga. However, Simeone is urging his players not to take Luis Garcia’s men lightly.
The Argentine knows that Getafe are a dangerous side. He believes they are a force to be reckoned with.
“They’re a tough opponent enjoying a good time, difficult and competitive.”
The Atletico boss is of the opinion that they have to approach the fixture on Wednesday with their utmost focus and concentration. He expects his players to maintain the same level of tempo and intensity they have been showing recently.
“We’ll have to approach the game with care and attention, maintaining the intensity of recent games.”
Meanwhile, the 42-year-old commented on how his team reacted after their back-to-back losses before the Deportivo La Coruna win. He is pleased with how the players reacted to the situation and stated that everyone is now happy after their impressive display
at the Calderon.
“We reacted well. There is joy and enthusiasm, as it was very different to the week we had been experiencing. We settled increasingly into the game and began to be protagonists.”
Five of the six goals against Deportivo were scored by Atletico hitman, Radamel Falcao, and Simeone described what the Colombian has achieved as historic. He concluded his remarks and said that his team and Falcao will stay competitive and continue their
intensity.
“What Falcao did is historic. Great for the fans, the club, and for him. Whenever a player scores five goals it is difficult to repeat. We are happy for him and hope he can remain competitive in every game.”
Meanwhile, the sensational form that Falcao is in has ignited further transfer speculations. It is now confirmed the English side, Chelsea, have opened up talks over a possible €60 million move.
