Question:

Similac Advance Early Shield?

Has anyone tried this formula? What did you think of it? I would like to put my daughter on the most beneficial formula in a couple of months.

And before I get criticized and told by random people that breast milk is best and I should breast feed... I do. And I pump. But I will be having surgery in about 6 months for a breast reduction (need to confirm date with the doctor)... since I am now an "I" cup size with a 26 inch waist and I am 5'1"... my back is suffering horribly and at times I am in so much pain I lose my breath... it's hard to explain... but yes, I lose my breath because of the pain. (one breast weighs 11.2 lbs, the other weight 11.4 lbs) Anyway... thanks in advance!!

  1. I haven't tried the formula but I do know a lot of people who use it.

Congrats on wanting to get the surgery.

  2. So sad to me that you had to put in the disclaimer about breastfeeding to fend off all the nursing-n***s.  But I can understand why you did.

Anyhoo- I haven't tried it, but have been wanting to.  My daughter has been on regular Similac Advance and I didn't know if I could switch her to the new stuff easily, or if I should.  It is a bit more expensive here, though, which makes me wonder...

  3. I would recommend asking your pediatrician.  They are usually able to tell you which ones are best and give you a free trial size sample.  Just be sure to tell him right away if your baby starts spitting up, becoming bloated, constipated, or shows any signs of trouble digesting it.  Sometimes that can signal a lactose intolerance or an allergy to something in the milk itself.

  4. I have been looking into this formula as well as i plan on switching from breastmilk to formula soon.  I have heard some great things about it.  I'm sure it is just like any formula though...works great for some babies and not for others.  As for the poster that said it gave her baby 'the runs", it is suppose to make babies p**p more like breastfed babies which seriously is super runny.  Sometimes it looks just like colored water, but i'm sure the person that asked this question knows this.

  5. It just came out in August.  I gave it to my son for 2 weeks.  It is supposed really good but it gave my baby the runs and lots of gas.  He is on sensitive now.  Go to the similac website for more info

  6. i would talk to your dr and see what he or she says about any formula.

  7. Congrats on breast feeding. The best formula to give is plain old - Enfamil with iron. There is a reason why the tends to be the number one brand of formula given out from hospitals.

  8. An infant I cared for as a nanny was on this formula, switched from another.

Within a month of starting on this formula, she got super sick from her morning infant group...*shrug* Maybe it takes longer to really help, but I didn't see any difference between her immune system and other babies' immune systems...she got sicker than other babies I had worked with, in fact.

Talk to your doctor, see what s/he thinks is the best formula for your baby. This may be it, then again it may not be.
