Similar symptoms with these tablets anyone?

My oral surgeon presecribed Tylenol 3 for pain after my oral surgery, and well, i've been taking them using the regular dosage [one tablet every 6 hours, blah dee blah..], but i don't know if this is listed as a side effect..anyways, i've been having really random and vivid dreams ever since i've started taking them. i usually i don't dream at all..can anyone tell me why? [..if its hormones, i'll scream; thats what my doctor always says..]

  1. Its hormones....LOL......J/K......Tylenol 3 has codeine in it and that is what is making you have the weird and vivid dreams.  Phenegran does the same to me, and I wont take it because of that.

Hi - Tylenol 3 is a combination drug.  It consists of of 300mg of acetaminophen (Tylenol) and 30 mg of codeine, which is a hefty dose, if you have never taken any codeine compounds before.  The Tylenol acts on the peripheral nervous system and the codeine acts on the central nervous system, binding to the opiate receptors of the brain, releasing a family of endorphins, which can lower your respiratory rate and, well... induce a higher degree of activity in the part of the brain which is responsible for hallucinations and dreaming.  One word of caution, codeine can make you nauseated!!  Hope this helps :)
