  1. Similarities? let's see..

    The foods! like Baklava/ pirzola

a lot more, I'm Turkish from Istanbul

    I have greek friends.

but supposbly they say there enemies.

Reason why some Greeks can hate Turkish

because Turkey rule Greece for 100 of years

till they came out. and became free.. But some people

are over it some are not. I have a lot of greek friends

and we became closer because i was turkish

because our culture is almost the same..

besides religion.. most turks are muslim

many greeks are christian/chatolic/ and yea

Oh and we believe in Evil eye like greece too

  2. they look like each other.

  3. you could easily pass as a greek with this percentage because you look greek to me  as for your question except for habits of  drinking, eating they're two hot blooded , warm and happy people who get nervous real easy, always curious to meet other peoples but keep their traditions which is like folk dances performed by holding hands and forming a circle and respect their families some girls have big hips, same look, like bargaining for goods as capricious as my-ex girlfriends no offence :)  when i saw someone who was dunking of bread in the plate i'd think he/she is a greek or turkish  i dont wanna give you an example of swearwords which are also similar

  4. I like everyone, and I am a friend of both Greeks and Turks.

But I have to disagree when people here say that the fact of having similarities between nations is a reason for not having serious issues.

Israelis have many similarities with Palestinians, Pakistanis have many similarities with Indians, Serbians have many similarities with Bosnians,etc...I don't think that food or music can be good reasons for stopping war..

    Peace...

  5. The animosity between turks and greeks started in Turkish Independence War(1918-21). The 'big' European countries like United Kingdom, France etc., fired Greeks with enthusiasm for to separate Anatolia land. And for the west Anatolia, greeks have been fired with enthusiasm that they must own these lands, but they didn't know that, 'other' countries will take these lands from greeks and rule by themselves. So the chaos started. Also the Istanbul Greek Chaos( that's what i call)(1958 or 1957), and the Cyprus operations in 1974, made turkish people enemy to greeks. But only extreme nationalists still insists that these two ' almost-twin cultured' people have an enmity between them.

Still, people hesitate at first second if the person next to them greek or turkish, but now everybody know that more important is to be human. and also turkish people love hospitality to foreigners, so enjoy every moment that you live in Turkey.

P.S: i forgot to type similarities: foods, name of foods, names of some fruits( like portokal/portokali),dance, drinks, physical similarities, and most that i can't even remember.

  6. We are all human beings. Who cares if you are Turkish or Greek...

at some day we will all die and will be buried or disappear.

And of course we must learn how to live peacefully.

Yes we have a lot of similarities.

our music, our food, our accent (not the language), our appearance, etc. are almost identical... so what is this hatred?

  7. Greeks and Turks are very similar, because a lot of the Mediterranean countries have people that have similar features.  ex. Italians look like Greeks, Bulgarians look like Italians, Turks like Greeks, etc.

If you like Turkey, there shouldn't be any problem with it.  With the world becoming so modern, it's not unusual that everybody is globalizing and wanting to live somewhere different.

  8. They have a similar mentality and there are a lot of Turkish influences in Greece due to the Ottoman Empire, such as music, food and some Turkish words in their language.

  9. greeks r çakma Turks :p

  10. Greeks and Turks have lived so long together that almost the only one difference could be the religion. Everything else is pretty much similar.

In the Fifties Greek singers would come to Turkey and sing turkish Songs like they would in the Greek taverns in Greece. Until the Cyprus question arose the Turkish coffe was also called turkish coffe in Greece.

After 1974 Greeks started calling it Greek coffe. Both Turks and Greeks know what musakka is. You will find musakka in Sivas and Antep too (Turkish provinces almost in the Middle East) But hey since 1974 Greeks have increasingly insisted that musakka should be Greek and not Turkish. I think Turks and Greeks have lived longer together than the conflicts between each other ever lasted. They should leave all the unpleasent memories of the history behind and seek for amicable feelings.

  11. my best friend is greek, we have the same food, similar music, culture etc

    and same warm ppl

  12. yes we have many similarities because turks were our bosses for 300 years and we do not have our freedom until 1821! we have same food and many words especially in Thessaly one region in central Greece people still use turkish words!! i think that today we do not have reasons to be enemies!! the biggest similarity is thAt we are humans!!!

  13. As an archaeologogist, used to looking at things in the long term, I would say that a political border is only temporary. Your ancestors lived in Anatolia. If you are happy here you should continue to follow your dream, regardless of what (any) other people think.

There are many similarities and many differences. It depends on your mentality and whether you see positives or negatives.

Life is for living and most people think we only get one crack at it. If you are happy here that is enough.

    Good luck!
