  1. Previous answer is correct, but applies to other types of faults as well.  However, if this is a homework question--your teacher may be fishing for a comment regarding both being dip-slip faults: the angle of the fault planes are oblique to bedding. In the normal fault, the hanging wall moves down. In the reverse fault (oblique fault face with dip greater than 45 degrees), the hanging wall moves up relative to the footwall. (A thrust fault has a similar motion but dip is less than 45 degrees).

  2. Well, the similarity exists in the fact they are both caused by brittle fracture in the rocks along which appreciable movement occurs.

    They also occur at plate boundaries.
