Simmard holds obvious chance in Pan American Stakes at Gulfstream Park
Simmard made a fantastic seasonal return last month, winning Mac Diarmida Stakes by a nose. Roger L. Attfield’s trainee will be in action in the Pan American Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, March 24, 2012.
Since the seven-year-old looks in winning mood, the bookmakers are likely to give him the highest staring price for the 1½-mile event. The winner will walk away with a cash prize worth $150,000.
Among the entries are: Newsdad, Simmard, Harrods Creek, Hailstone, Cause of Freedom and Center Divider.
Simmard is in good shape at the moment. The seven-year-old horse had an unlucky last year, as he failed to taste success despite some decent efforts. However, he started off this season with a wonderful show.
After a nerve-wracking contest, Simmard managed to outplay his rivals in the Mac Diarmida Stakes on February 26. A close win would have boosted up his confidence significantly and thus, he will be tough to beat.
Newsdad also did well in his first race of the season. Luck was not on his side though, as he was defeated by Simmard. Today’s meeting is a good chance for him to take revenge of his recent trouncing.
The bay and brown colt is certainly under some pressure, as he is yet to grab his maiden victory. After staying out of action for more than half a year, he returned strongly but remained unlucky. The connections are expecting him to finish well to bag the
winning prize today.
Harrods Creek will be out in search of his first victory. In his last race in December, the five-year-old was quite decent, as he secured runner-up position. It was surely an unlucky trip for him, as he missed top slot just by a head distance.
Center Divider has a point to prove. He was also a part of the Mac Diarmida Stakes, won by Simmard last month. Despite an all out effort, the horse could only seize fourth spot on the table.
Simmard has a psychological edge, as he beat a few of these in his last meeting. However, he cannot take things lightly, because his rivals will look to pay back the debt with same coin.
The stats show that it is going to be a three way battle between Simmard, Newsdad and Harrods Creek. Good luck to everyone.
