Simmering aromas?

Years ago my mother would simmer water on the stove with something that made the house smell wonderful. Many years later I can't remember what she put in the water. Hopefully, I will get some good ideas on here.

  1. My grandmother used to peel oranges, add some cinnamon and cloves, two cups of water - bring to a boil then simmer  - checking on the water level from time to time.  apple peels also work well.

    good luck

  2. in the fall and winter, I boil cinnamon sticks with orange peels, and a Tablespoon of lemon juice. You can boil this several times before having to start all over again. I usually toss it out after a week, and start fresh

((remember to add water as needed, and once the water has boiled, you can turn it down to low, or shut off, and reheat as needed))
