Simon Bedford anticipates good form in 2011-12 Snooker Season: World Snooker Q School 2011
Englishman Simon Bedford is hoping to shine in the upcoming 2011-12 Snooker Season after he grabbed his Pro Tour Card in the second event of World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) 2011 at the
World Snooker Academy in Sheffield on Sunday, May 22.
The Bradford cueman, Bedford did not enjoy a very good last season as he crashed out of qualifiers of major events and could not make it to the advanced stages of the tournaments. Nevertheless, he
is looking forward for a positive turn out this season.
Bedford entered the Q School Event one and clinched his first round match against Shaun Wilkes by a scoreline of 4-1 with frame scores 49-61, 88-26 (Bedford 47), 71-33 (Bedford 39), 70-2, 73-0 (Bedford
72). He went head-to-head against Ian Glover in the second round and had a tussling encounter with him, but eventually lost in the decider frame by 3-4 and crashed out of the event.
With renewed determination and hopes, the West Yorkshire-based potter started the second event and made an impressive impact this time. He moved to the quarter-final stage of the Q School Event two
after he defeated Scotland’s Fraser Patrick 4-1, the Indian Mohammed Raoof 4-0, compatriot Stuart Carrington 4-3 and Joel Walker 4-1 in the first four rounds.
He faced 35-year-old Welshman, Lee Walker, in the quarter-final and after a thrilling encounter, he finally succeeded to make his way to the professional tour of the 2011-12 Snooker Season as he beat
Walker by 4-3 in their quarter-final action.
While speaking to the local media after the victory, Bedford said, "It was a scrappy game but I managed to stay in front. Five years ago I gave the game up, then (coach) Steve Prest helped me get
back into it and I got into the top 64. When Steve died I lost my love of the game for a while. But I'm back on my feet now and ready to give the tour a good crack next season."
The new snooker season starts this month with Players Tour Championship (PTC) followed by the very first major ranking event on Australian soil, the Australian Goldfields Open 2011. Bedford is definitely
looking forward to make his presence felt in the pro tour.
