Simon Burnett dominates Men’s 100m freestyle semi-final – British Gas Swimming Championships
Simon Burnett of Windsor dominated the semi-final of Men’s 100m freestyle on day three of the 2012 British Gas Swimming Championships at the London Aquatics Centre on Tuesday, March 6.
The British Gas Championship gives an opportunity to their national players to compete with each other and prove their eligibility in the British team to the 2012 London Olympic Games.
The 28-year-old Burnett clocked a time of 49.33 seconds and qualified in the freestyle playoff as top contender for gold medal. With his impressive effort, he remained 0.24 seconds ahead of Co Glasgow’s Robert Renwick, who settled on the finishing blockade
as second best finisher by posting 49.57 seconds.
Loughborough University’s Grant Turner occupied third qualification spot of the event as he clocked a time of 49.67 seconds.
After a while, the audience witnessed forceful efforts of Beckenham ‘s Ellen Gandy, who went full throttle in the semi-final of Women’s 200m butterfly discipline and obtained first position with an effort of 2 minutes and 07.54 seconds.
With her remarkable struggle, she remained 0.99 seconds away from Jemma Lowe of Swansea Perf, who ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 08.53 seconds. She was trailed by Jessica Dickons of Edinburgh University, who remained considerably slower from her
former finisher and earned third qualifying position with the timing of 2 minutes and10.33 seconds.
Following that, the spectators experienced extraordinary efforts of Edinburgh University’s Michael Jamieson, who conquered the semi-final of Men’s 200m breaststroke. Jamieson spoiled the party of his competitors by reporting an effort of 2 minutes 11.47
seconds.
He was chased by Andrew Willis of Bracknell, who stayed 0.40 seconds slower and hit the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 11.87 seconds. Subsequently, Jamieson’s team-member, Kristopher Gilchrist produced an effort of 2 minutes and 13.22 seconds and transpired
on the concluding wall as third finest finisher.
The crowd appreciated exhausting efforts of all contestants in their respective semi-finals while these finalists will race each other in the playoff of their exclusive events. In addition, the championship will conclude on March 10 after the completion
of all events in Men and Women’s category.
