Simon Danielli misses Ulster’s Magners League match with Edinburgh
Simon Danielli will miss Ulster’s Magners League match against Edinburgh at Hampden Park on Friday 22 October.
The winger will not play any part in the match after he picked up a leg injury against Biarritz in Ulster’s 35-15 Heineken Cup defeat.
The Scottish international was forced to limp off after 25 minutes and was replaced by Australian Adam D’Arcy.
Danielli is expected to be out for at least three weeks and the Scottish international will now miss the autumn internationals against New Zealand, South Africa and Samoa.
D’Arcy is expected to fill in for the winger in the match against Edinburgh and Danielli will be disappointed that he will not be able to face his fellow countrymen.
The Scottish winger has suffered a number of injuries this season and had only returned to the Ulster team for the match against Biarritz.
Ulster coach Brian McLaughlin will also be missing full-back Jamie Smith and centre Darren Cave from his back line. The two players are expected to return to training next week and will be available for the Munster match on Friday 29 October.
McLaughlin may also be missing some of his Irish internationals due to the Irish Player Management Programme, which aims to rest first team players on the build up to Test games.
Ulster has already won 29-21 against Edinburgh this season in the Magners League at Ravenhill, but without Danielli and some of their first team backs, McLaughlin is expecting a close game.
Edinburgh lost 27-31 at home to Northampton in the Heineken Cup in their last match and they are hoping to bounce back against Ulster.
Ulster’s assistant coach Nick Scrivener said, “We have not been quite good enough. We are sick of falling just short, but we recognise it is not by chance.”
Edinburgh will be keen to avenge their defeat to Ulster earlier in the season.
